The loanee has had a frustrating spell at Fratton Park since arriving from Aston Villa in August.

Green spent more than two months on the sidelines following an operation to remove a cyst from his knee.

When the winger has been fit, he's found it difficult to win a regular spot in Jackett's line-up, failing to dislodge Ronan Curtis or Jamal Lowe.

Green made a bold statement to his boss, however, by firing the Blues into the FA Cup third round at Rochdale on Sunday.

The 20-year-old came off the bench to snatch a 90th-minute winner and earn his side a 1-0 victory.

Green will now be targeting a berth on either of Pompey's flanks in their push for the League One title.

And Jackett wants the Solihull-born ace to fulfil his '˜fantastic potential.'

The boss said: '˜I was pleased with Andre and being able to work him back into the side now is something he has to do after his knee injury.

'˜It's quite an established side.

'˜But he is a player I know from my time back in the midlands and he does have fantastic potential.

'˜Since he's been here he has been a smashing lad as well.

'˜It was a big goal he scored and a crucial one.

'˜He's got one in the Checkatrade Trophy and now one in the FA Cup as well.

'˜It was a really good from him (to win the free-kick in the build up to his goal) and a really lively run.'

Green is expected to start when Pompey host Arsenal under-21s in the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy tonight (7.45pm).

It's the second of a 10-game period which spans over 35 days. During that time frame, the Blues will do battle against promotion rivals Charlton (December 11), Barnsley (December 15), Sunderland (December 22) and Luton (January 5).

Jackett knows the crucial run of fixtures approaching will have a significant impact on his side's title aspirations this season.

And the manager is looking forward to seeing how Green can make an impact for Pompey during that spell.

'˜Andre needs the opportunity now '“ obviously after his injury and the fact that we've had a settled side,' added Jackett.

'˜We'll keep working with him and we look forward to what he can produce for us over the next period in some very big games coming up for us.'
