After falling behind in the fifth minute to a Noah Pearce goal, the holders hit back with goals from James Cowan (12th minute) and Brandon Miller (17).

The New Forest hosts levelled before half-time through Conrad Churchill but another Cowan goal (71) and one from Callum Dart (80) put Baffins back in charge.

Lymington caused a late scare, reducing the deficit with a Sam House penalty, but Baffins held on to move into the second round and a trip to the Isle of Wight to face Newport.

Boss Shaun Wilkinson was delighted with his team's performance, which followed on from their weekend 8-1 thrashing of Portland in the Wessex League Premier.

'We were excellent again tonight,' he said.

I had to make a few changes and struggled to fill our bench.

'It is a great result against a big-spending, powerful side.

'Apart from a ten minute spell we dominated the ball, played some excellent football and scored some great goals.

'Our players are buying into what we want and it is showing in their football.'

The home side’s misery was complete when Connor Messenbird was sent off for two bookable offences in his first game back from suspension.

Boss Pete Stiles felt there wasn't a lot between the two sides.

'I don't think that we actually played that badly,' he said.

'It was tight all the way through against a strong Christchurch side.

'It doesn't help when you give a sloppy goal away at the start of the second half and then go down to ten men.

'I wasn't happy about that.

'For their goal we just switched off and gave away a poor back pass without thinking.

'Both teams had chances after that and I felt that we gave it a right go.'
