Baffins Milton keep alive dream of becoming only third club to ever retain the Wessex League Cup

The visitors overcome having to switch the tie to the New Forest to twice come from behind to earn a home quarter-final against league table-toppers AFC Stoneham on March 4.

Baffins snatched the win in a thrilling finale just when a penalty shoot-out looked on the cards.

Manager Steve Leigh praised the battling qualities of his side under difficult circumstances.

'We started the game well, but allowed Brockenhurst to get it,' he said.

'They hurt us with some set pieces, due to us being reactive instead of proactive.

'We need to improve on this as a squad, just as they need to understand and action instructions provided to them by the management team.

'We showed great character and determination to not only get back into the game, but to go on and win it.

'We said at half-time if we kept going and believed in ourselves we could get something and in the second half we were the only team in it.

'It is great for the club that we are still in and defending the cup we won last season.'

Despite a positive start, Baffins found themselves behind in the 16th minute.

A long clearance by the home goalkeeper reached Will Tickle and, when his shot crashed down off the crossbar, Mitchell Speechley-Price converted the rebound.

Callum Dart was denied an equaliser by a good near post save.

The visitors were saved by the woodwork and made the most of it by grabbing a 24th minute equaliser.

Robbie Taw delivered a near post corner and Tom Froggatt finished from close range - his first goal since signing from Fareham Town.

Within two minutes Baffins found themselves behind again when goalkeeper Cameron Scott was given little chance by Speechley-Price’s thunderous effort.

It was all to play for after Dale Mason smashed in a 57th minute equaliser following a good lay-off from Tyler Moret.

Moret was causing all sorts of problems for the hosts and enjoying lots of possession.

Dart raced clear of the home defence to latch onto a Moret pass, but fired across goal and wide.

After a corner was only partially cleared, Taw thumped an effort against the post.

The tie was won, however, by Tommy Tierney deep in stoppage time.

A corner was cleared out to the midfielder whose effort was deflected past the goalkeeper.

Baffins therefore remain in with a chance of becoming only the third club to retain the Wessex League Cup.

Thatcham Town won it in 1991 and 1992 and Alresford repeated the feat in 2013 and 2014.
