A SECOND-HALF George Barker strike earned Gosport Borough a 1-0 Southern League premier division south win against Hendon at Privett Park, writes Kevin Ricketts.
The forward struck on 56 minutes with an excellent opportunist finish after outwitting two defenders inside the area.
Borough made one change to their starting line-up with Matt Paterson replacing Sam Argent up front.
In the early stages, Rory Williams swung in an early free-kick and Sam Roberts fired into the side netting at the far post.
Another Williams cross from the left ended with Paterson glancing a header beyond the far post.
Hendon responded and home goalkeeper Patrick O'Flaherty saved from Kam English with his legs.
On 19 minutes Alex Lefleur replaced the injured Williams.
Gosport were enjoying the lion’s share of possession but Hendon looked lively on the break.
The home side were struggling to create any clear-cut chances in the blazing sunshine.
Four minutes before the break O'Flaherty had to clutch a far-post header from Luke Tingay.
The visitors had started the second half the stronger and English drifted an angled shot wide of the target.
But Borough broke the deadlock on 56 minutes against the run of play.
BARKER twisted and turned inside two defenders and his shot went in via the the near post.
Almost immediately afterwards, Paterson got clean through but chipped his shot across the face of goal and wide.
Borough almost extended their lead when Theo Lewis flashed a header just wide.
