Ben is Wright choice as Borough grab draw... Late drama costs Hawks win

Substitute Ben Wright snatched a last-minute goal to salvage a 1-1 National League South draw for Gosport Borough against Welling United at the Aerial Direct Stadium today.

The hosts almost made a dramatic start as Dan Wooden was denied an opening goal by the woodwork after only 38 seconds.

A quick raid down the right ended with Matt Fish crossing for Adam Coombes to head in from six yards for the visitors.

On the hour Borough were awarded a penalty after Dean Leacock was adjudged to have handled inside the area.

Lewington however pulled off a superb full- length save to push Bentley’s spot-kick round the post.

In a bid to try and salvage something from the game Borough sent on striker Wright for the last ten minutes.

It worked with Wright grabbing a last minute equaliser.

A late equaliser condemned the Hawks to a 1-1 draw in their Ryman Premier League clash at Hendon.

Early Hawks pressure led to Matt Paterson scoring the opener on just three minutes.

The striker poked home after a double save from the Hendon goalkeeper.

Hendon pressure eventually told when Arthur Lee rose highest to nod home a free kick.

The Hawks couldn’t force an equaliser in the dying moments and had to settle for a point.

Petersfield slipped to the bottom of Southern League division one after a 3-0 loss to Kempston Rovers.

Danny Watson’s hat trick ensured the visitors took all three points.

Striker Watson ran onto a ball over the top to curl an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Matt Petts.

Immediately after, the Rams failed to clear a throw-in and Watson again was unmarked at the back post to hook in his second of the game.

The hosts dominated the early stages of the second half and had the ball in the net on 53 minutes.

However, the linesman’s flag ruled out Olly Searle’s volley.

Kempston wrapped up all three points with their only attack of the second half.

Petts’ miscued clearance allowed Watson time to pick his spot and smashed home his third.
