Birmingham replaces Craig Pearce in the hotseat at the Wessex League premier division club, with the latter stepping down to lead the club’s youth programme.

Pearce will still assist Birmingham, though, as a first-team coach, with Jamie Steeves also involved in Birmingham’s new-look backroom staff.

The Deans released the following statement: ‘Horndean Football Club is making some positive changes which will help strengthen the infrastructure of the senior team and help support the continued development of our youth.

‘Craig Pearce who successfully steered the first team to its highest position ever in the Wessex Premier league last season has embarked on his own quest setting up Junior premier league teams which is proving incredibly successful, the downside of which is that it impacts on his participation with Horndean on Saturdays.

‘With this in mind we are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Birmingham and Jamie Steeves to work with the first team.

‘Michael Birmingham will assume the role of first team Manager, Craig Pearce will be first team Coach and Jamie Steeves will control the backroom activity.

‘From our perspective we are incredibly fortunate to have this team in place. Both Craig and Michael have managed Bognor Football Club at Southern League level and Jamie Steeves has acquired exceptional local knowledge of players having been of working with AFC Porchester a very well respected local football club.

‘These changes fit perfectly with our model and our ambition to support local players with the intention of integrating them into senior first team football.’
