Blues move for Connolly

Pompey are closing in on Paul Connolly as they desperately try to bolster their defensive options ahead of tomorrow's League One opener against Bournemouth.

The Leeds full-back is believed to be a target of Michael Appleton as he frantically bids to put a team together to face the Cherries.

Connolly has been transfer listed by Elland Road boss Neil Warnock.

The 28-year-old is expected to sign a shot-term deal to join the 10 players signed by the Blues yesterday.

But he must do so before midday tomorrow to be given the green light to feature in the Fratton Park derby with Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, reports suggest another of Appleton’s triallists, Josh Thompson, will arrive from Celtic on loan on Monday.
