Borough out to bounce back against Salisbury after FA Cup exitÂ
Gosport Borough are determined not to suffer an FA Cup hangover when they host Salisbury in the Southern League premier division south on Saturday (3pm).Â
Craig McAllister's side exited the famous competition at the hands of Ramsgate last weekend.
Borough fell to a 3-2 loss in the third-qualifying round.Â
With £9,000 at stake, it financially was a massive opportunity lost for the club, while their Cup hopes were dashed.Â
However, McAllister has insisted Gosport must put that defeat behind them.
The boss has told his troops to focus on maintaining their good start in the league '“Â and deliver a victory over Salisbury at Privett Park.Â
He said: '˜We have a 100Â per cent record at home in the league.
'˜The FA Cup defeat was unfortunate but we have to look forward.
'˜We must get back to doing the basics right.
'˜This is a huge game and, in many ways, the perfect one to have given the circumstances.
'˜It is our opportunity to bounce back and get last week out of our system.
'˜Salisbury also made a disappointing FA Cup exit in midweek so they will be fired up.
'˜I am expecting an exciting but closely-fought affair.'
Borough are boosted they have Mark Childs, Rob Flooks and David Gerrard back in contention.
The trio could all start against Salisbury.
McCallister is delighted they have returned and feels the competition will naturally breed better performances from Gosport.
The boss added: '˜With players coming back competition for places is hotting up.
'˜It is up to the players to go out there and make sure they keep the shirt.
'˜We are pleased with how it has gone so far in the league.
'˜If we want to achieve anything, though, we have to look to go on a little run.
'˜In a season, you need to go on a six or seven game winning streak on at least two or three occasions.
'˜We need to work hard and do the simple things.
'˜That was missing in the FA Cup game last week.'
