The midfielder celebrated rejoining the club after last summer’s move to Baffins Milton with a goal in the 4-1 win at Ringwood.

Glen restored USP’s lead in the second half as the city club moved six points clear at the top of the Wessex League Division 1 table.

They were the only club in the top five to play, though, as third-placed Hythe’s home game with second-placed Bemerton was called off - as was fifth-placed Andover New Street’s trip to fourth-placed Downton.

‘We started well but then had an iffy 25-minute spell in the first half,’ said US boss Glenn Turnbull.

‘It was 1-1 at half-time but we stepped it up in the second half and kept going and kept going.

‘The second half was really good.

‘Ringwood were a good side, though – they were they quickest team on the break we’ve played this season.’

Dec Seiden fired US ahead at Ringwood with his 14th goal of the season, before the hosts levelled just before the interval.

Glen put US back in front before Tom Jeffes struck his 17th goal of the campaign and Andy Todd netted his eighth in six Wessex starts.

Though top scorer James Franklyn passed a fitness test, Turnbull decided to give him another week’s rest ahead of next weekend’s juicy trip to Downton.

‘I wanted all the other games to go ahead,’ said Turnbull. ‘The worst case scenario was that only two of the other top five teams would win, and ideally they would all draw.

‘But other people at the club weren’t disappointed they were off - they are quite happy to have the points in the bag.’

USP have rearranged their Portsmouth Senior Cup quarter final with Horndean - twice postponed already - for Tuesday, March 3. Due to be played on the club’s usual Victory Stadium grass pitch, it will be switched to the adjoining 3G surface if necessary.

Two days later USP’s reserves host Fareham Town in the same competition - and that tie will definitely be on the 3G pitch.

The home game with Ringwood will now take place on Tuesday, March 31.

The weekend game was supposed to be at USP, but they switched it to Ringwood due to a problem with the home club’s floodlights.
