Catlin: Borough looked like a team of individuals

The hosts never got up to speed against Paul Hobbs’ fellow strugglers.

And the game ended in ugly fashion with players from both teams confronting each other after the final whistle.

Caitlin accepted his troops didn’t deserve anything from the clash.

The Borough boss said: ‘It was hugely disappointing.

‘There was something lacking and we never really troubled their goalkeeper.

‘You can’t expect to win games like that. We keep bringing players in but don’t get time to work with them

‘We looked like a team of individuals and that made us very disjointed.’

Borough fell behind in the 19th minute when Matt Ward scored with an opportunist strike that looped inside the far post.

The visitors extended their lead on 70 minutes after a free-kick rebounded to Josh Coldicott-Stevens, who remained composed to steer his effort home.

Gosport were given a lifeline nine minutes from time when the visitors conceded a soft penalty.

Ed Sanders made no mistake from the spot to set up a tense finale but there was no way back for Borough.

Catlin added: ‘We rallied a bit at the end after scoring the penalty.

‘But it was a lot of huff and puff without a lot of quality.

‘It got a bit niggly towards the end and tempers flared at the final whistle.’
