Catlin calls on Borough to net back-to-back wins

Borough face National League South strugglers Welling United at the Aerial Direct Stadium tomorrow (3pm) looking to secure back-to-back wins.

Catlin praised his players after their 2-1 win at Hemel Hempstead in the most difficult of circumstances.

The club had been handed a winding up order by HMRC and there was speculation over manager Alex Pike leaving for AFC Totton.

Chairman Mark Hook insists the tax arrears have been paid.

The managerial situation, however, is still very much up in the air with Pike refusing to reveal his plans.

Catlin again wants the players to ignore the uncertainties off the pitch and focus on beating Welling.

‘It is important that we build on the win at Hemel and keep things positive,’ he said.

‘We can’t do anything about what is happening off the pitch.

‘The only thing we can influence is the way we perform on the pitch.

‘The players remain very upbeat and that was helped by our win.

‘That result couldn’t have come at a better time from a confidence view.’

Catlin knows his team need to put in a good performance in front of their own fans.

Borough have lost their last two games on home soil, including a thumping 6-0 defeat at the hands of Chelmsford City.

Up until then, though, Borough had reserved some of their most impressive displays at home.

They beat title favourites Ebbsfleet United 1-0 with a disciplined display.

Catlin wants to see his team get back to that.

‘The Chelmsford result knocked our confidence a bit,’ said Catlin.

‘We were still a bit hungover from it when we lost to Wealdstone.

‘It is important that we get back to greater consistency.

‘To do that we have to make sure that we are in the right mindset.

‘Looking at the league, there isn’t a lot separating the teams at the top and bottom.

‘If we can string a few results together it will soon catapult us back towards the play-off places.

‘Needless to say it can also easily go the other way.

‘Our aim has to be to put back-to-back wins together.’

Experienced defender Brett Poate is back in contention after serving a one-match suspension.

He may have to wait his chance as young defender Adam Brice did well in his absence at Hemel.

Tom Bird is still under suspension but striker Chris Flood is recovering from his knee operation.

He went on as substitute at Hemel and may get another chance to play some part.
