Comment: Anonymous Roberts can't continue to be a passenger

There were plenty of reasons to be positive following the 1-0 win at Grimsby.

You won’t find Gary Roberts on the good list, though.

The forward was anonymous for the majority of Saturday’s game.

Everyone has an off-day, of course. But the truth is that Roberts has been subdued for a few weeks now and struggled to make an impact.

Few fans would disagree that Roberts is one of Pompey’s key men, an integral link in their attacking play.

His off-colour performance at Grimsby didn’t prove costly.

But with manager Paul Cook intent on sticking to his 4-2-3-1 formation, Roberts cannot continue to be a passenger if the Blues are going to put a run together to put themselves back in the frame for automatic promotion.
