Here is what their reporter – who wished to remain anonymous – had to say...

Curtis Main became a bit of a boo boy up here in Doncaster.

It never really happened for him.

On his debut against Yeovil he was absolutely outstanding, almost unplayable and everybody thought: ‘We have got a player here’.

He had that physical strength – he was holding the ball up, bringing others into play and he scored as well.

The belief was that this kid could do something.

He got off to a great start but then it just went downhill from that point onwards – he struggled with injuries and couldn’t get a regular game.

And last season was just a bizarre carry-on with Oldham.

In January, Donny were starting to plan ahead for next season, thinking they were safe from relegation.

They let Curtis go out on loan and struggling Oldham came along offering him first-team football.

Donny overlooked a recall clause and came out with the fact that all three parties had to agree on him coming back, so they couldn’t just recall him.

Curtis then said he would be staying at Oldham because he was playing every week.

Donny were relegated, with Oldham surviving – and from that point on his time here was over really!

He is highly-rated and still only 24 so he has still got time.

One of the things that came out was that he is a really intense character.

Maybe he is too self-critical, which has held him back.

Former boss Paul Dickov tried to get him to relax a bit and not beat himself up so much over missed chances.

I think the change will do him good – a change of scenery might get him going again.

He is a bustling presence and has good upper-body strength to hold players off.

The goals he scores, although not plentiful, tend to be spectacular – he has it in his locker to score an absolute worldie from outside the box.

He needs to add consistency to his game and start producing on a regular basis.

He lacked that at Donny but did it at Oldham last season and their fans took to him because he puts a shift in.

Sometimes he looks uncouth but he will do a job for the team – he is a hard worker.

In terms of best position, it’s hard to say what that is because he never really settled into the team.

But at Oldham they had him playing wide right of a three so he is quite flexible in that he can play in multiple systems.
