The Blues shared a 3-3 scoreline with a strong Eddie Howe side for a fixture which also served as Alan McLoughlin’s benefit match.

Adam May’s deflected 89th-minute strike ensured level terms, a fully-deserved outcome for the hosts in front of a crowd of 5,153.

Gary Roberts and Michael Smith also netted against the Premier League team - and Cook was pleased with the team’s performance on a sweltering south-coast day.

He said: ‘It’s pre-season, you have the same feeling driving home from Salisbury on Tuesday as leaving Fratton Park today.

‘Nowadays the way the world is everyone judges you after a game.

‘Last Tuesday night it was how disappointing and how poor we were – today it is how much better we probably looked.

‘The reality is we haven’t improved a lot over four days, but it’s pre-season.

‘It’s great to have the quality of opposition that Eddie and Bournemouth bring and we are pleased with how we performed.’
