Pompey produced one of the best displays of Cook’s tenure as manager to batter Colchester 4-0.

The feeling felt at the Weston Homes Community Stadium was a far cry from a week ago after the home loss to Crewe.

Cook was pleased to send the 2,284 away fans home in raptures.

He said: My players will either make me good or make me bad, and I have great faith in my players.

‘We have good players at this club and you only have to look at those players coming off the bench to see that.

‘We’ve had a good day and it’s been too long since this club has felt good days.

‘We were playing a team who’ve had horrific injuries but have stayed in contention for the play-offs.

‘Only two teams have a better home record, so to perform how we did was pleasing.’
