Cotterill considering Futacs loan

Steve Cotterill is weighing up whether to send Marko Futacs out on loan.

But it won’t be for the time being.

The Blues boss is eager for the 21-year-old to gain precious experience in English football.

As it stands, he has made three substitute appearances for Pompey so far.

However, the absence of a reserve side restricts the possibility of more outings.

Run outs in friendlies against Swindon and next week’s visitors FC Rustov are the only alternative.

But Cotterill is aware that may not be enough to maintain Futacs’ development.

And he admitted he is looking at sending the Hungarian under-21 international out for a loan spell.

He said: ‘Ideally, I would have liked to have had him here longer to work with.

‘We would have trained him longer because what we have got to be careful of is to make sure he doesn’t lose his fitness.

‘Maybe further on down the line it could be a loan.

‘Not just him but a couple of others.

‘But we have got to keep him here for a little while.

‘He has got to play games – it will be the only way to get him up to speed.

‘Marko’s playing for the Hungarian under-21s but when you are that size it is very different playing against lads who are aged 20.

‘He will be very big to them lads, let alone the men he plays in the Championship.

‘The lad just needs games.’

Futacs joined Pompey earlier this month after impressing on trial.

He also netted in a 4-1 behind-closed-doors friendly against Swindon.

That was enough to persuade Cotterill to snap him up on a 12-month deal – with the option for an additional year.
