Crewe v Pompey: Gaffer for a day

Barney Hague-Wright previews Pompey's trip to Crewe today

I actually live in Leicestershire so I don’t get to go to too many home games, but I was at Coventry on Tuesday night and go to as many away games as possible.

I am hoping for a win at Crewe and that has to be the target for us in every game.

I went to a few games last season on the road when we were really good – Accrington especially sticks out.

We seem to play with less pressure when we are away.

At home we are almost intimidated by the atmosphere.

The other team sit back and play for a draw but when we go away we are given more freedom.

At Coventry, though, it seemed we were playing with too much freedom!

Kal Naismith at left-back was caught out of position too many times.

To be fair, his free-kick was superb – I think it is the first time I have seen Pompey score a free-kick.

In terms of our team this season, Carl Baker looks a great addition.

Milan Lalkovic is another who has caught the eye and is great competition for Kyle Bennett who can be unreliable at times.

Looking ahead to Crewe, I would stick with almost the same team that was held by Carlisle on opening day.

But Noel Hunt I would like to see start a game – when he came on at Coventry he was threatening and quite entertaining to watch.

Everyone loves Conor Chaplin but I think Paul Cook sometimes feels a bit pressured to put him on – he would start on the bench for me.

The only other change I would make is Tom Davies in for Jack Whatmough, who I feel is lacking a bit of match fitness at the moment.

I like the look of Amine Linganzi so would maybe bring him on in place of Danny Rose or Michael Doyle in the second half.
