Never easy being a Pompey fan.

Definitely not – and that game encapsulated our whole season.

We were awful, shocking, in that first-half and 15 minutes into the second it wasn’t getting any better.

I kept looking for substitutions to be made, we needed a spark and I don’t know where it was going to come from.

But, as ever, we showed what a Jeykll and Hyde team we are and came out to win it like that.

It wasn’t even a game of two halves – we only played well for 30 minutes.

You had a result in more ways than one didn’t you?

Yes, before the game I backed us at 22-1 to win 4-1 – and won £92!

I fancied us to win and was later told by a Dagenham fan they are a notoriously bad second-half team.

They were 2-0 up against Morecambe in the week and, although winning 2-1, were fortunate to get the points.

At the final whistle on Saturday I was running round our hospitality box!

Who was your man of the match?

Well I’m going to be slightly controversial and go for Christian Burgess.

He edges it just ahead of Michael Doyle, there was a piece of string between them.

Doyle is my player of the season, Mr Consistent who is always in the middle of the park driving the team on.

But Burgess shaded it on Saturday purely because he was our stand-out performer in that awful first-half.

He held us together when we were in danger of falling behind even further – then later weighed in with that crucial goal.

What did you make of the fans turning on the players?

From our box, we couldn’t hear it.

I was quite shocked when I later heard about chants of ‘We are embarrassing’, I never knew anything about it at the time.

Surely you should wait until 90 minutes before having a go?

I know people get frustrated, I did, and while it might have had an effect on Saturday, I don’t think the players needed reminding they weren’t performing.

It’s unusual for an away support. Our players have taken some stick from the fans this year yet we could still get promoted!
