Deans to sharpen up... Reds keeper may get forward role

After taking over in the summer Birmingham has experienced an up-and-down start to his tenure as manager.

Since winning at AFC Portchester on the opening day of the season his side have suffered two defeats.

Bashley dumped them out of the FA Cup.

And then Fareham Town beat them 1-0 in the league in midweek.

Birmingham wants to see his team show a bit of a clinical edge when they take on Hamworthy.

He said: ‘Against Bashley we got what we deserved which was nothing.

‘Against Fareham it was totally different but we lacked quality in the final third.

‘We have to make sure we make our chances count against Hamworthy.’

The home side have Ian Humble back after serving a three-match ban.

Fareham Town manager Steve Stone admits he is down to the barebones for the visit of Andover Town to Cams Alders tomorrow (3pm).

Injuries and unavailability are making life difficult for the Reds boss.

Stone said: ‘We picked up three more injuries against Horndean and a couple of players are going away.

‘That is what happens when you can’t pay players.

‘From a squad of 30 players only 13 are available and I may have to ask goalkeeper Luke Douglas to play up front.

‘I am trying a get a player in before the weekend.’

Dave Carter sees big improvements in his Moneyfields side.

He will be targeting a win at Bournemouth Poppies tomorrow (3pm).

‘We had a good win against Team Solent and seem to be getting better and better,’ said Carter.

‘If we want to do well this is a game we must win.’

Returning striker Steve Hutchings struck both goals in the win over Team Solent.

The visitors are boosted by the return of Tyler Giddens and Curtis De Costa from a course.

AFC Portchester face a tough encounter against powerful Blackfield & Langley at Wicor Rec (3pm).

The Royals lost their opening league game at home against Horndean while the visitors have made a three-game unbeaten start.

Baffins Milton Rovers play their first ever Wessex League away game when they go to Christchurch in division one tonight (7.45pm).
