Dumbuya not keen to be put on the spot

Mustapha Dumbuya praised the nerve of Pompey's spot-kick kings as they fired his team to Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory.

But the right-sided marvel admitted he was at the bottom of the list when it came to taking a penalty last night.

Michael Appleton’s side registered victory in their first-ever tie in the competition.

That arrived as they beat the Cherries 4-3 on penalties with the game ending 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Brian Howard, Liam Walker, Ashley Harris and Luke Rodgers all delivered text-book efforts from 12 yards.

Dumbuya explained the only preparation for that challenge is an occasional few kicks in training at the end of sessions.

The 25-year-old delivered another fine performance on the right flank.

But he revealed he is not one for taking on the task of a penalty in a shootout.

Dumbuya said: ‘The boys stay after training sessions and take a few shots and penalties sometimes.

‘The boys that took them practice them a bit.

‘I was probably last on the list! I’m not too confident in taking penalties but if one comes up I’ll take it.

‘They were good penalties from the boys, though.’

Dumbuya signed off last night before heading away to represent Sierra Leone this weekend.

He was handed a start on the right of midfield by Appleton – and responded with another impressive high-energy performance.

Dumbuya said: ‘I was on the right wing and hadn’t played there in a while.

‘It’s going to take me a while to adjust to it if I stay there.

‘I was pleased with how I played and I will always give it all I’ve got.

‘If I don’t do my runs, I won’t feel too proud of myself at the end of the game.

‘I see myself as a right-back but as long as I’m on the pitch I will always give 150 per cent.

‘I’m away on international duty now.

‘So I’ve wished all the boys good luck for Sunday now and hopefully we can get three points there.’
