England's Alex banking on bumper Fratton crowd

The Three Lions are playing Turkey at Fratton Park in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday, September 26 (kick-off 7.05pm).

They last played at the stadium in February 2004.

An impressive crowd of 8,101 turned out on that occasion to see Hope Powell’s side defeat Denmark 2-0 in a friendly.

Some two years earlier, 8,821 were present at Fratton to see England face Portugal.

Organisers are hoping similar numbers will turn out for the latest instalment.

And for Arsenal right-back Scott, who has more than 100 international caps to her name, it is an exciting opportunity.

She said: ‘We stage our games around the country so everyone gets to support us and see us.

‘I’ve played at the Emirates, Wembley, Man City, quite a few big stadiums – but sometimes the smaller ones are the better ones.

‘You get a good crowd in there and it creates an intimate atmosphere which can sometimes be daunting for the opposition.

‘They tell me nine years ago down here they got more than 8,000 and it would be great to achieve that again.

‘I remember in the Premier League I used to watch the games on television and it always seemed to have a tremendous atmosphere – hopefully we get that same support.

‘And being an Arsenal fan I remember Thierry Henry getting a standing ovation and putting on the Pompey shirt.

‘It’s great when you can have that rapport with away fans as well as your own fans.’
