Evans eyes more glory in pursuit of Portsmouth golden boot

The Blues skipper registered his fifth of the campaign as he emerged as the matchwinner in Saturday's 1-0 triumph over struggling Bradford.

Converting Ronan Curtis' left-wing pull back on 12 minutes, it represented the 24th goal of his Pompey career.

In terms of this season, Evans is now narrowly behind Jamal Lowe and Curtis, who have each netted six times.

And the former Bantam is eyeing more as he continues to revel in the number 10 role for the League One leaders.

He said: '˜I still feel that in every game I will get one or two decent chances '“ and it's just the case of trying to hit the target.

'˜If I'm playing an attacking role I will score goals and have proven that in the past and hopefully that will continue.

'˜I was disappointed that my shot at Accrington didn't go in, that was a decent strike, but I always feel I will get one or two opportunities and have to try to focus on hitting it on target hard and low and making the goalkeeper work.

'˜At Bradford my goal it was a good team move. There was a decent passage of play in the middle of the park, it was put out to the left and Ronan got past his man and I've managed to work my way into the box.

'˜There were quite a few bodies in there actually, so luckily it fell to me.

'˜I thought I was going to kick it against Jamal because he was right in front of the ball, but he managed to move out of the way and I managed to register the winner.

'˜I've not really set a goal target. I think in your mind you set a figure at the start of the season but you are not really too sure where you're going to play, especially me being a utility man.

'˜But if you are playing an attacking role you do have a goal-scoring figure in your mind.'

Evans spent two seasons at Valley Parade after joining from Macclesfield for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2009.

During that period he netted 14 times in 85 appearances, primarily as a striker.

And he enjoyed Saturday's return to his former employers.

He added: '˜I scored 11 goals in the first year I was at Bradford.

'˜The second year was quite tough, with cutbacks in wages and stuff, it was a bit of a tougher time. I scored a fair few goals at Valley Parade, though, and that is another for the collection.

'˜I've only been back a few times, last year wasn't a great one obviously because we ended up losing, so it's pleasing to get three points.

'˜They used to hate me there! I was at the club when it was at a tough time, but haven't got any ill feeling towards Bradford fans, I'm just a Portsmouth player now and that's that.'
