Ex-Pompey favourite Brett Pitman's role in promotion battle with Lincoln, Sunderland, Peterborough, Hull and Charlton in action

It’s been a positive night of results for Pompey as they closed the gap on the automatic promotion spots.

The Blues saw the distance to the top two reduced to six points after the latest round of action in League One.

Kenny Jackett’s men moved up to fourth in the table above Doncaster, after Darren Moore’s side saw their clash with Blackpool called off due to a waterlogged pitch at 6pm.

And there was good news for Pompey sides above them in the table failing to pick up a win.

Lincoln were knocked off top spot after being held to a 2-2 draw to struggling Swindon.

And it was Brett Pitman who was on the scoresheet, as he did his old side a favour by grabbing the Robins’ second goal.

Hull’s poor form continued as they fell to a 1-0 loss at home to Ipswich with James Norwood getting the only goal of the game.

Below Pompey, Sunderland are now in fifth place after a 2-0 win over Fleetwood with Aidan O’Brien and Max Power getting the goals.

There was also defeats for Charlton and Accrington inside the top 10 along with Oxford, after Pompey’s victory.

Peterborough are the new leaders after an impressive 3-0 victory at Plymouth.
