Fans facing kit sale uncertainty

Pompey fans have been warned they face a wait for any new first-team kit to hit the shops.

The Blues’ continuing uncertainty means the strip for the forthcoming season has still to be unveiled.

Before the CSI fall-out, three new kits were in place – approved by supporter representatives and then-manager Steve Cotterill.

However, that has been delayed as the club fights to remain in existence amid its worrying financial problems.

Administrators are planning to hold talks with regular Blues kit manufacturers Kappa over their continuing role in any strip for the club.

In addition, Jobsite’s sponsorship is also up for renewal this summer.

Pompey will have a kit for the players to wear in League One this season.

However, with so many variables at present, the precise details are unclear.

Regardless, any kit on general sale is expected to be a few months behind in launch terms.

And supporters will have to be patient while the problem is sorted. Trevor Birch said: ‘The kit situation is all still up in the air at the moment.

‘We will definitely have a kit to play in.

‘Whether we have a kit to sell, we don’t know at this stage.’

Pompey’s first pre-season friendly is at the Hawks on Saturday, July 14.

Just two days later they embark on pre-season tour to Spain, where they will have a fixture against Gibraltar.

The season kicks off on August 14 with a trip to Plymouth in the Capital One Cup.

Any first-team kit would need to be finalised for what is effectively the campaign’s curtain-raiser at Home Park.

However, Pompey have assured supporters that will not be a problem, with plans already in place.

Kit sponsorship is another headache, with Jobsite having given support to the club since July 2009.

Their existing deal runs out this summer, although it is believed there is a one-year option.

Meanwhile, Kappa signed a five-year deal to be Pompey’s kit partner in April 2009.
