The game's creators Sports Interactive boast a network of scouts around the world who help to create its remarkably sophisticated player database.

We got our hands on a Beta version of the game ahead of its release and ran the rule over Kenny Jackett's squad.

Here's the most expensive and most highly rated Pompey players in Football Manager 2019.

Andre Green, £2.6m

Loanee Andre Green is listed as Portsmouth's most valuable player on Football Manager 2019.

The Aston Villa player's dribbling, pace and acceleration all rank in the mid-teens.

Joe Mason, £2.2m

Attacking midfielder Joe Mason is valued over £2m at the start of Football Manager 2019.

The Irishman's off the ball and decisions stats are both rated 14.

Matt Clarke, £1.5m

Central defender Matt Clarke boasts a decent set of physical stats, with his jumping and strength both ranked in the mid-teens.

Tom Naylor, £1.3m

Defensive midfielder Tom Naylor also possesses impressive physical stats, as well as strong mental stats with teamwork, anticipation and composure all in the teens.
