In-form Pompey loanee continues to shine
Ben Tollitt continues to revel in his National League surroundings, following a match-winning display.
The Pompey winger grabbed the only goal of the game as Tranmere won at Gateshead last night.
In the third minute, Tollitt accepted Jeff Hughes’ pass before firing across the keeper into the bottom corner.
It represented a third goal in five matches during his successful loan spell with Micky Mellon’s third-placed side.
The 22-year-old has been an integral member of the Rovers side which has gone nine games unbeaten to push themselves into the promotion frame.
His initial loan with the Prenton Park outfit expires in January – and it remains to be seen whether Pompey will want him to stay there beyond that date.
A Blues player who has had his loan extended is Adam May, with Sutton United increasing his deal until January.
The highly-regarded midfielder lined up for the National League side last night against Dover, marking his fourth appearance.
However, they slumped to a 6-0 Gander Green Lane defeat as the visitors took advantage of Paul Doswell’s team losing Dean Beckwith through a red card.
May played the entire 90 minutes in that loss as he maintains his development.
Brandon Haunstrup joined May on loan at Sutton in October, yet made only three appearances, the last a month ago.
Elsewhere, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain has been impressing in the midfield of Eastbourne Borough.
Now into the second month of his loan, their FA Trophy replay against Leiston was last night postponed.
During his time with the National League South side, he has appeared in a 9-0 victory in The Sports’ favour, albeit in the Sussex Senior Cup.
Another Blues loanee affected by the weather is Alex Bass, whose Salisbury side last night suffered a frozen pitch against Winchester City.
Bass is playing regularly for Steve Claridge’s men, most recently in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Evesham.
Meanwhile, Calvin Davies continues to impress for Bognor, who last night climbed back to the top of the Ryman League premier division.
The Rocks defeated Kingstonian 2-0 to move two points clear of the Hawks, with Davies playing the full 90 minutes at right-back.
