Gosport Borough dealt another blow in bid for Southern League Premier South play-off place at Hayes & Yeading

New-look Borough seemed to be heading for a share of the spoils when Keano Robinson's late strike left them in pieces.

It is a bitter blow to Borough's play-off ambitions, leaving them in ninth spot and eight points behind fifth-placed Taunton Town.

‘It is gutting and very hard to take,’ admitted Borough boss Lee Molyneaux.

‘We didn't get what we deserved.

‘The least we should have come away with was a draw and we possibly deserved to win it.

‘That is the reality of football, it can be great or it can ruin your whole weekend.

‘It is sickening when we put so much into the game.

‘Even their manager agreed that we should feel very hard done by.’

New-look Borough had four new players in their squad and they grabbed the initiative a minute before the end of an evenly contested first-half.

Matt Paterson controlled a cross on his chest and volleyed his shot into the bottom right corner.

The home side drew level soon after the break as Jack Sheppard fired a 25-yard effort past debut-making goalkeeper Kingsley Latham.

Ten minutes from the end, Ryan Woodford rescued Borough with a goaline clearance but there was no escape at the death.

Borough conceded a free-kick on the left and Robinson produced the winning header.

‘We led at half-time and never looked in any trouble,’ added Molyneaux.

‘In the opening 45 minutes, neither team created many chances.

‘The four new players in the side all executed what I asked them to do and did it well.

‘We conceded from mistakes that could have been avoided.

‘They scored from virtually their only two chances.

‘For their first goal, Sam Roberts got rolled far too easily and for the second Mike Carter gave away a foul and Ryan Woodford lost his man.

‘I didn't go mad at the players afterwards because it was a positive performance.

‘That still gives me the belief moving forwards.’
