Gosport Borough’s Privett Park bar manager Keith Slater has been re-purposed as the Covid-19 community response coordinator.

‘We were contacted by the team coordinating the relief effort at Gosport Borough Council, who told us Aldi had a supply of fresh food available but which was on a short sell-by date,’ Slater explained.

‘The club was able to mobilise its volunteer team and get the food collected, sorted, parcelled up and delivered to deserving cases by lunchtime.

‘This is a fantastic gesture by Aldi and also shows how the community is working together for people in the town.’

He added: ‘We are still looking for volunteers to join our database. We already have nearly 25, but the more people we can call on the more we can minimise the risk.

‘Our effort has been fully approved and risk-assessed and we provide suitable protective equipment for those involved.

‘If we can expand the number of people we have available it will also mean we can consider expanding our reach and services.’

The club is working with a range of local partners including Gosport Voluntary Action, Gosport Citizens’ Advice Bureau, the Salvation Army and Solent Mobility.
