GOSPORT BOROUGH are on the brink off strengthening their squad ahead of their Southern League premier division south game against Beaconsfield Town at Privett Park on Saturday (3pm).
Craig McAllister expects to sign Winchester City centre-half Sam Roberts – as well as bringing back two familiar faces.
Ryan Case and James Harper, who were both at the club last season, are also set to re-sign.
McAllister feels action is needed following Borough’s slide down the table after a string of poor results.
The manager said: ‘We needed to do something because the rot has gone on too long for our liking.
‘It has been frustrating because we are better than our recent results show.
‘Sam Roberts is a big, strong, aggressive central defender and that is just what we need.
‘He is what I regard to be an old-school defender and can score goals from set-pieces.
‘His presence should give us a bit more solidity at the back.
‘We know exactly what we are going to get with the other two players coming in because they helped keep the club up last season.’
Case has been out of the game for three months with a knee problem.
Meanwhile. Harper became available again and McAllister regards his capture as a no-brainer.
The former Arsenal and Reading midfielder proved to be a model professional last term.
McAllister added: ‘We have got two home games now to make up for lost time.
‘We need points. I am not too concerned about how we go about getting them as long as we pick them up.
‘More than ever this weekend we need to go out and make sure we win.’
