Gosport Borough include new signing in squad for tough Southern League trip to high-flying Poole Town

Borough manager Shaun Gale has signed Roundell from Southampton-based Sholing, who play a division below Gosport.

'He plays in the centre of midfield and is a very physical, strong lad,' said Gale.

'Sholing were playing him at centre-half but he hadn't been playing.

'He came to us and said he wanted to play football.

'The lad can give us a bit more strength in midfield which is something that we have been lacking.'

Roundell has made 234 first team appearances for Sholing, including nine this season - eight of them starts.

Borough have had a 10-day break and Gale believes that can stand them in good stead as they take on a Poole side fresh from winning 6-2 at Yate at the weekend..

The lay-off has given Gale the chance to get a few of his injured players fit, including strike pair Dan Wooden and Matt Paterson.

Borough are currently ninth with two wins, two draws and two defeats.

Gale insists his side have been playing well and are capable of getting a result at the BlackGold Stadium.

'We know that it is going to be a tough game,' he said.

'Poole are right up there and it is a bit of a local derby for us.

'It is always good to test yourself against the top teams.

'We have done alright on the road so far and have been playing well.

'All the pressure will be on them.

'We need to go there and make it difficult for them.

'They are a good side and if we don't play well then it could be a long night.'

Gale will be pleased to have Wooden and Paterson back in contention.

In the last game, a 2-2 home draw with lowly Harrow Borough, Pat Suraci had to fill in as part of a makeshift front line.

He did well in the first half but found it more difficult in the second when Borough needed a target man.

Both Wooden and Paterson are proven scorers and have the quality to cause Poole problems.

Experienced pair Mike Carter and Theo Lewis will also be better for the 60 minutes they got in the Harrow game.

Lewis again proved what a danger he can be, scoring both Borough goals.

'If we get Theo Lewis into the right areas then we know that he will score,' declared Gale.

'I believe in the quality we have in our squad and am convinced we can get something from this game.'

Former Gosport pair Tony Lee and David Jerrard both scored for Poole at Yate, with ex-Southampton Academy midfielder Corby Moore netting twice.

Teenage defender Ben Greenwood, on loan from AFC Bournemouth, provided a couple of assists for a Dolphins side who have won five of their six league games and drawn the other.
