Gosport Borough pick up narrow success at Beaconsfield

Ryan Woodford’s second-half finish proved the difference for the visitors.

The game took a while to get going, with both sides feeling each other out.

Louis Stead had a sight on goal for the hosts but it flew harmlessly into the side netting.

Then Aaron Minhas tried his luck from long range but the Beaconsfield man’s effort was straight down keeper Kingsley Latham’s throat.

The first meaning effort for Borough arrived in the 23rd minute when Charlie Kennedy’s shot from a tight angle went narrowly wide of the target.

Things would finally start to liven up in the second period. Following the restart Rory Williams whipped in a good cross but neither Mat Patterson or Rudi Plummer could get on the end of it for Borough.

But the breakthrough would arrive in the 51st minute for the away side. Theo Lewis delivered a dangerous corner and there was WOODFORD to head home in excellent style.

It was Lee Molyneux’s side who continued to be in the ascendancy and somehow Beaconsfield managed to scramble off the line in the 61st minute.

The home side began to push for an equaliser, though, with Minhas’ effort going just wide of the far post.

Then Beaconsfield were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area but Latham was there go gather easily.

There was a huge scare for Borough late on when Huggins was forced to hook away a ball off the line.

Yet Gosport held on for three important points.
