Borough have a player who is displaying Covid-19 symptoms so a decision to call the game off was reached between the two clubs earlier today.

It has not been confirmed whether the Gosport squad member has coronavirus but the club did want to take any chances with two other players in the team deemed high risk.

A Borough spokesperson said: ‘Once one of our players presented with symptoms, we contacted Salisbury and the league and quickly decided that playing the game wasn’t worth the risk.‘Both clubs’ priority, and that of the league, is the welfare of all those connected with the game.‘With the lockdown looming it made sense to postpone the match.’Gosport are now facing more than a month without a match after it was announced non-elite football cannot take place while the country is placed under a month-long lockdown, which is going to be in place from Thursday.

However, the enforced break could allow Shaun Gale to get some of his squad members back to full fitness.

Bradley Tarbuck and Theo Lewis were facing spells on the sidelines after coming off during the FA Trophy defeat to Dorchester on Saturday.

They join Jordan Rose and Mike Carter as absentees for Borough as the injury list mounts.

But the hope for Gosport will be all four may be back to fitness in time for when the club return to action - whenever that may now be.

No new date has been decided for Borough's rearranged meeting with Salisbury, although it is hoped the fixture could be fulfilled in December when national lockdown restrictions are lifted.
