Gosport Borough target Rudi Plummer could provide 'missing piece' needed to fire Southern League Premier South play-off charge

Lee Molyneaux believes forward Rudi Plummer could be the ‘missing piece’ Gosport Borough need to get their Southern League Premier South play-off charge back on track.

The Borough boss confirmed the club have put a seven-day approach in for the Moneyfields forward and hope to have him signed in time for the clash with Merthyr Town at Privett Park on Saturday.

Plummer only moved to the Moneys from Blackfield & Langley – where he was top scorer last season – last month, but Molyneaux has identified the striker as a potential key man for Gosport.

Should he land his target, the Borough boss feels he will add a ‘different dynamic’ to his side’s forward line.

‘We are in talks with him, but no paperwork has been done as of yet,’ revealed Molyneaux.

‘We’re hoping to get him for Saturday.

‘He’ll just add a different dynamic to what we’ve got.

‘At the beginning of the season we wouldn’t have set out thinking we needed someone like Rudi.

‘But looking at how we play now, he could be that missing piece for us scoring, being more creativity and a bit less predictable.

‘He has had a couple of clubs this year, but he’s really keen to do well and really keen to succeed as all of our lads are.

‘We’ll work with him board and hopefully he can get off to a good start.’

That loss saw Gosport slip to 10th in the table and they now find themselves eight points off the play-off places having played two games more than fifth-placed Taunton Town.

But rather than add further pressure for his side, Molyneaux wants things to remain positive around the club.

They are without a win in five league outings, but home games against Merthyr Town (Saturday) and Weston-super-Mare (Tuesday) provide Borough with a chance to bounce back.

‘We could and should have been firmly up there in the play-offs now - but we’re not,’ added Molyneaux.

‘I think added pressure goes the other way, we just need to believe in ourselves and play football the way we know how to play.

‘We don’t need to overthink things, we’ve got the personnel to win games.

‘We’ve got real strong opposition in these next two games.

‘But we’ve played better against stronger opposition so far this season.

‘If all of our players play to the best of their ability, we’ll win games no problem.’

Theo Lewis (ankle) and Josh Huggins (groin) are still missing for Gosport.
