Gosport boss Gale could strengthen with Hawks loanees once Southern League restarts after lockdown

The former Hawks boss has been at the ground as part of BBC Radio Solent's commentary team for their past two league matches against Oxford City and Dulwich Hamlet and the FA Cup win over Cray Valley Paper Mills.

It's given him the chance to cast his eye over some players and have discussions with Paul Doswell about the possibility of potential loan moves.

Gale revealed he and the Hawks manager had talks at the start of lockdown and 'there are a couple of players' within the latter’s squad that could temporarily join Borough.

And it's something he might be pursuing further in the next week or so with 'non-elite' football given the green light to restart in England when the current lockdown ends next Wednesday.

‘It’s been good (doing the commentary) because it’s given me a chance to get out and watch some games,' said Gale.

‘I’ve been to three games and commentated on two of them, it’s been really good.

‘I was at Havant for a long, long time. It’s been good and I’ve really enjoyed it.

‘I’ve had a few chats with Dos about taking players on loan.

‘The conversations I have had with him were at the start of lockdown.

‘Havant have got a good squad and if we do anything with any of those that suit our needs then that’s something we’ll definitely do.'

Gale has been looking to bring in a couple of fresh faces during the 'non-elite' shutdown.

But he has failed in his bid so far, admitting the lockdown has made things very difficult.

He has previously stated he does hope to bring back Pompey loan trio Harry Kavanagh, Eoin Teggart and Gerard Storey when Boro’s season restarts.

'We’re looking for a couple more but people obviously don’t want to move and are not going to move when we’re in lockdown,' added Gale.

'I’ve approached one (a player), who is a free agent, he’s come back from another country.

‘But what they’re trying to do is get into the Conference South and above, because what they want is an income straight away.

‘It goes against you a little bit but it’s testing times for everyone, and the most important thing is we get back playing football sensibly.'
