Gym 01's Barry confident of knockout victory at Shock N Awe 28
Gwyn Barry is confident of delivering a knockout victory at Shock N Awe 28.
The former University of Portsmouth student believes he can swiftly finish Calvin Reynolds when they meet at Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday.
Barry, who fights out of Fratton's Gym 01, makes his second appearance in the professional ranks.
He delivered an impressive debut win in April, submitting Gareth Hales in the first round at Shock N Awe 27 at the Mountbatten Centre.
Barry starts as the firm favourite in his 88kg fight against Reynolds, who has lost all four of his contests.
The Welshman has refused to underestimate his opponent.Â
But Barry is adamant he can entertain the Guildhall crowd by putting Reynolds away inside the distance.
He said: '˜I've had a few injuries but I've been getting my body right.
'˜Now I'm excited to get back in there and get the ball rolling.
'˜I've had little injuries that build up. It's just part and parcel of the sport but I'm feeling really good.
'˜I don't think you should ever take an opponent lightly.
'˜I know that his record isn't the best, but that's because he has taken a lot of fights on short notice.
'˜That tells me he's keen and he's there for a fight.
'˜You can't take anything for granted in this sport.
'˜I'm preparing as much as I can and he'll face the best version of myself '“Â I hope he brings it.
'˜The fight isn't going to go the distance.
'˜I believe if he his durable enough then he might make it past the first round.
'˜I am going for the knockout. I've been working a lot on the boxing and his lights are going to be switched out pretty quickly.'
Barry made his debut against Hales at light heavyweight, while he meets Reynolds at a catchweight of 88kg this weekend.
The 26-year-old's ultimate aim is to drop to middleweight '“Â and he's taken on a strength & conditioning coach to help him achieve that.
Barry added: '˜I've taken on a strength & conditioning coach and worked a lot on my boxing.
'˜I've tackled every area that I can and I'm feeling really good.
'˜My strength and conditioning is now a lot more full on. There's more scientific research behind it to keep my body in tune.
'˜Before I made the mistake '“Â like a lot of people do '“ thinking I needed to do as much as possible.
'˜Now I'm thinking about my recovery and my body is fine-tuned.
'˜The fight was supposed to be down at middleweight but got changed to a catchweight bout.
'˜My debut was at light heavyweight but I'd like to get down to middleweight.'
