Hawkins: Strike pairing a good option for Portsmouth
Oli Hawkins is confident he can form a good partnership with Brett Pitman if the two strikers are called on together for Pompey.
Boss Kenny Jackett has gone with one up front this season.
But Hawkins, who has mainly held that role, was joined on the pitch by his competition for the final 26 minutes of the 4-0 FA Cup win at Maidenhead.
They showed they can be an option for Jackett if he needs to utilise the two forwards in games together.Â
Hawkins believes they are well capable of doing damage to opposition defences as a pairing.
He told BT Sport: '˜Brett came on towards the last 20 minutes.
'˜We both know we can play with each other.
'˜Obviously the gaffer has a formation he likes to play.
'˜At the moment it is one striker up front and if it's my job to do I will try to do it and when it's his turn, it's his turn.'
Pompey adapted well to what could have been a difficult ground to play on.
The challenges posed by non-league side came as no surprise with Jackett's men well prepared.
Hawkins added: '˜We knew it was going to be tough.
'˜I've been to Maidenhead plenty of times and I know the slope on the pitch.
'˜Their players are all big and strong.
'˜We knew we had to do a job, we dug in and it showed.'
