Hawks boss Doswell hoping for more floodlight excitement as Slough return to Westleigh Park after November controversy

Paul Doswell is hoping for another memorable midweek performance from the Hawks against Slough Town at Westleigh Park on Wednesday (7.45pm).

The Hawks have produced some of their best home displays this season in midweek under the lights.

They have only won six out of their 15 home National League South games in 2019/20.

But three of those have come in their only three midweek games - a 6-0 hammering of Dorking, a 3-1 victory over Hungerford and a pulsating 3-2 win against fellow promotion rivals Weymouth earlier this month.

'There is a real feelgood factor about Wednesdays when we have won three out of three and scored 12 goals,' said Doswell.

'It will be great to keep that going.’

Slough are making their second trip to Westleigh Park this season, after their first in early November was controversially abandoned after Hawks had taken a 2-0 lead.

'Before the game the players will have a little reminder that they had a win taken away from them the last time we met,’ Doswell remarked.

'To be honest, though, so much time has passed that to us it is just another game we want to win.

'We will need to play well to pick up the three points for our own sake.

'Our aim is still to finish as high up in the play-off places that we can.

'Our defeat against St Albans has probably taken away our chance of catching leaders Wealdstone.'

In contrast to their excellent midweek showings at home, on Saturdays the Hawks have been less than convincing.

They suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against lowly visitors St Albans City at the weekend.

Doswell put the blame for this firmly on referee Jack Packman who controversially dismissed Danny Kedwell early in the second half.

It was the third successive time at home the Hawks found themselves playing over a quarter of the game with ten men.

'There is no doubt it was a game-changing moment,' said Doswell.

'It was a ridiculous decision.

'We have looked at the video and it wasn't even a foul, let alone a red card.

'Using the video evidence, we will be appealing the decision to the FA.

'Up until then it was a game where we looked very comfortable.

'What capped it was when St Albans equalised the ball went into an area where Kedwell would have been.

'In our two previous home games when we went down to ten men the players managed to see it out.

'You can't expect to keep doing that.'

Kedwell is available against Slough but fellow striker and 15-goal top scorer Jonah Ayunga will miss out after limping off in the first-half against St Albans.

On a more positive note, Roarie Deacon and Sam Magri are both getting ever closer to returning after injury.

Both teams - who drew 1-1 in Berkshire less than a fortnight ago - will view the game as crucial in their play-off bids.

Third-placed Slough are two points ahead of the Hawks, who have a game in hand.

Another heavy pitch is expected after the latest downpours and it is likely to cut up from the start.
