He has been limited to just a couple of appearances in the Vanarama National League because of injury.

It has been a frustrating spell for the combative player who is an important member of Lee Bradbury's squad.

Carter has been waiting nine weeks and with the busy Christmas period fast approaching it has been a difficult time.

The midfielder just wants to get back on the pitch and help the team move clear of the relegation zone.

He said: '˜It has been about as frustrating as it can get really.

'˜At the beginning of the season I wasn't in the team but was happy to fight my way in.

'˜I knew it wasn't going to be plain sailing and I would have to fight for my place.

'˜When I did get in I played a couple of games but then got injured.

'˜It has been nine weeks now.

'˜I have been for scans and got results which let me know that I need an operation.

'˜That is the frustrating bit.

'˜I have injured the ligaments to my ankle and maybe there are one or two other bits going on there.

'˜But the main ligament needs repairing.'

Though frustrated Carter is determined to remain positive and play his part on the sidelines.

He still very much feels part of the squad.

The midfielder added: '˜I just get behind the lads as much as I can and give them any support I can.

'˜At the moment I can't really do any running so I am just trying to keep myself fit.'

Carter is in no doubt the Hawks are good enough to maintain their National League status at the end of the  season.

He added: '˜We have been a little unlucky at times.

'˜There is no doubt we have matched a lot of the bigger teams.

'˜That includes drawing against teams who were in the play-offs last season.

'˜At times we have not had the rub of the green.

'˜After a couple of good wins, though, the confidence is starting to flow back.

'˜Now is the time to start picking up some good results and move into a position of safety.'
