Cosgrave fires Hawks to massive cup victory

THE HAWKS made a successful start to their defence of the Portsmouth Senior Cup with a comfortable 10-0 win against Paulsgrove reserves at Westleigh Park.

Aaron Cosgrave broke the deadlock after 22 minutes, knocking in the rebound after 'Grove goalkeeper Matty Wearn got a hand to a Sharam Jalal shot.

The home side killed the tie off as a contest before half-time when Cosgrave went on to complete his hat-trick and Max Davis also found the net.

In the second half further goals from Marley Ridge, Cosgrave (2), Bradley Tarbuck (2) and Ibra Sekajja (penalty) completed the rout.

AFC Portchester came from behind to beat Clanfield 3-1 at the Crest Finance Stadium.

The Hampshire Premier League visitors stunned their hosts by taking a third-minute lead.

The Royals levelled on 32 minutes after Mike Turvey whipped a ball into the area.

When it fell to Joel Jackson, he slammed it into the roof of the net.

Three minutes before the break it needed a great save from Watch to keep the hosts on level terms at the break.

Within a minute of the restart, though, Jackson struck again to put the Royals in front.

He brought a long ball forward under control before delicately sending his shot wide of the goalkeeper.

On 50 minutes Dan Simmons stretched the Royals' lead with a third goal, firing in from the edge of the area.

In the Wessex League premier division a first-half Tyler Moret goal earned Baffins Milton Rovers a 1-0 win against Lymington Town at the PMC Stadium.

The victory lifts Steve Leigh's side into the top six.

Fareham Town bounced back to winning ways with a 3-1 triumph against Hamworthy United at Cams Alders.

US Portsmouth fought back from a two-goal deficit with goals from Harry Potter, James Franklyn and Harry Sergeant to win 3-2 at Romsey Town in division one.
