Lee Bradbury has held talks with Hartlepool United over the vacant manager position.
The News understands the Hawks boss has been interviewed for the position.
He is one of the leading candidates and is strong favourite for the job with bookmakers.
Hawks gave permission for Hartlepool to speak with Bradbury after they were approached.
The interview went well.
Matthew Bates was sacked last week after just nine months in charge at Victoria Park.
Bradbury has led the Hawks into the National League for the first time in the club’s history after successive promotions.
The Hawks face Braintree Town at Westleigh Park on Saturday.
The Westleigh Park side sit 19th in the table.
Hartlepool are in 14th position.
The Hawks were beaten 3-0 by Salford City on Saturday.
They will be hoping to bounce back and pick up three points this weekend to extend the gap to the bottom side Braintree.
It would also give them a chance to start climbing away from the relegation area.
