Hawks hang on to frustrate Chesterfield

Following an even first half, the visitors fought a brave rearguard action after the break to pick up a vital point.

And moments later the Spireites stopper was in action again, this time diving full-length to deal with an Alfie Pavey strike.

A Rory Williams free-kick from the left then tested the home defence, with Rutherford's drive deflected for a corner.

Two Hawks players ended up on the floor from the corner, but the referee was uninterested in their appeals for a penalty.

Chesterfield were being given little time on the ball whenever they tried to move forward.

But a slip by Dan Strugnell almost let them, before good covering by his fellow defenders rescued him

After a bright opening, the game turned into a tight, uneventful affair.

Pavey had a great chance on the stroke of half-time when sent clear '“ but his first touch let him down.

The Hawks made a determined start to the second half.

Alex Bradley worked an opening just outside the box, but his shot was deflected over.

At the other end, Ben Dudzinski pulled off a great save to deny Curtis Weston.

With the pace picking up, the game was becoming more stretched '“ and the Hawks increasingly coming under pressure.

The visitors survived a penalty appeal when Tom Denton was bundled over in the box. And nn stoppage-time, Dudzinski produced a remarkable double save to keep his side on level terms.
