Hawks secure win thanks to late Prior double

THE Hawks maintained their Ryman Premier title push with a 3-0 win over Merstham at Westleigh Park.

After a goalless first half Theo Lewis put the hosts in front 10 minutes into the second period.

The game swung further in the Hawks favour when Merstham were reduced to 10 men and Jason Prior converted the penalty.

Prior sealed the win with a thumping far post header nine minutes from time.

In the Southern League central division one Petersfield slipped to yet another defeat as their dismal season continues but they were unlucky not to get a point in their trip to Ashford.

The home side were in control early on with Tommy Brunton scoring two minutes before the break. The match finished 1-0.

Horndean secured victory in style in their Wessex premier division match against Cowes Sport.

The home-side put six past Cowes with Sam Smart and Joe Richardson each scoring a brace.

The Deans were 2-1 up at the break thanks to goals from Smart and Ashton Leigh. During the second half, Smart added another alongside a penalty from Jack Maloney.

Substitute Richardson added the fifth and sixth goals.

Elsewhere in the division two goals from Marley Ridge earned Moneyfields a 2-1 away win at Amesbury Town.

Fareham Town also won Solent with a 3-1 scoreline.

An eight-goal thriller saw AFC Portchester slip to a 5-3 defeat against Bemerton Health Harlequins.

The home side led 2-1 at half time thanks to goals from Nathan Kirby and Tony Easter. But a Tom Cain goal could not give Porchester a win as Bemerton went on to score four goals.

In the Ryman premier division Bognor were held to a 2-2 draw at Needham Market. Gary Charman and Sami El-Abd scored for the Rocks.

Gosport had an afternoon to forget losing 6-0 at home to Hemel Hempstead Town in the Vanarama national league south.
