Second-half strikes from Josh Taylor and substitute Tommy Wright proved crucial for the visitors against their 10-man hosts in the round two tie.

It means Hawks will host fellow National League South side Bracknell in round three on Saturday after they won on penalties at Billericay this evening.

Joe Iaciofano's early opener had been cancelled out by Bracknell top scorer Sebastian Bowerman on the half-hour as things were in the balance at the break.

But the two-divisions lower hosts' task became difficult when they had captain Max Herbert dismissed 10 minutes prior to half-time.

And Hawks made sure they came through thanks to efforts from both Taylor and Wright in the space of 10 second half minutes.

Although Bowerman notched a second from the penalty spot in the dying seconds, there was no time for them to find a leveller.

Paul Doswell made eight changes from the side that secured an away victory at Ebbsfleet in the league last time out.

Despite making a slow start, Hawks went ahead inside 10 minutes. Forward Danny Kedwell flicked on a long ball and fellow striker Iaciofano ran onto it before firing past Mark Scott.

Goalkeeper Joe Tupper - making his first start for the club - was on hand to keep out Shamar Moore's effort soon after following a quick Bracknell counter-attack.

Kedwell then fired a free-kick just wide after Iaciofano was pulled back prior to the hosts levelling on 31 minutes.

Hawks were unable to clear their lines with a deflecting shot falling at the feet of leading scorer Bowerman to make it 1-1.

In an eventful first 35 minutes, Bracknell were reduced to 10 men as captain Herbert was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Anthony Straker.

Both Daniel Ajakaiye and Iaciofano were unable to find the net with chances late in the half.

Bracknell were on top in the early stages of the second half but it was the Hawks who went back in front on 65 minutes. Taylor's deflected strike from 20 yards looped over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Wright and Godfrey Poku were introduced two minutes later and the former doubled the visitors’ advantage 15 minutes from the end. Iaciofano headed over a defender and Wright raced onto the ball to fire home.

Taylor was adjudged to have handled in the area deep in second half stoppage-time as Bracknell were awarded a penalty. Bowerman made no mistake but there was no time for them to find a leveller as it ended 3-2.
