Henderson shrugs off Newcastle interest

Stephen Henderson has shrugged off links of a move to Newcastle.

And the Pompey keeper insists he is ‘unbelievably happy’ on the south coast.

The summer recruit has been the subject of speculation in the north east.

Newcastle reportedly sent a scout to watch Henderson against West Ham last week.

Blues boss Michael Appleton has no interest in doing business, while Henderson is adamant nobody has contacted him.

The 23-year-old said: ‘I heard (the rumours) yesterday and had a few tweets straight away. It is news to me.

‘I’m unbelievably happy here.

‘I just want the club sorted, as everyone else does, regarding a new owner.

‘I don’t know when that is meant to be.

‘Honest to God, the fans have been outstanding with me.

‘I am not just saying that, I have never met a better bunch of fans.’

Pompey have already turned down a joint-bid from Ipswich for Joel Ward and Jason Pearce this week.

And Appleton insists there have been no approaches for Henderson.

He added: ‘Nobody has told me about it.

‘If I hear about it and someone contacts me, then I will let you know.

‘I am not surprised if it is true, not surprised in the slightest little bit.

‘Stephen has been doing fantastically well for us and is someone we rate very highly.

‘No-one is for sale. We would be crazy to think about selling players.

‘If we do, I might have to re-register myself – and I don’t think that would be a good idea.’
