After cruising into a 2-0 lead in the opening seven minutes, the Southern League side were made to work for their win by their Wessex Division 1 hosts.

Dave Carter was pleased with the way his team negotiated a difficult tie against a side who had won their previous 11 games in all competitions.

'To be fair Andover might play two levels below us but they didn't make it easy for us,' said Carter.

'They gave us a good game.

'The pitch was very heavy but I felt we conducted ourselves the right way to deal with it.'

Steve Hutchings put Moneyfields in charge with two early goals.

Twice Conor Bailey got down the flank to deliver crosses that ended with Hutchings heading in.

The home side refused to roll over and hit the woodwork twice before the break.

When they pulled a goal back on 57 minutes, Moneyfields looked under threat before they secured their win eight minutes from time when Jamie Ford scored with a close-range header from a corner.

'It is the first time the club has got to the semi-finals of this competition,' said Carter.

'It is also pleasing to pick up our first win of the new year.

'We must look to build on this for our massive league game against Barnstaple at the weekend.'

Hampshire Senior Cup holders Hawks must travel to Southampton Under-23s in the remaining quarter-final.

The young Saints won 4-1 at AFC Totton tonight.
