There are concerns up and down the country that seasons could be cancelled due to the growing coronavirus pandemic.

The HPL could take the step to bring a premature end to the campaign, or the decision could be taken out of their hands.

Thompson's side sit seven points clear at the top and have yet to lose any of their 24 league matches.

In addition to winning the title, there is also the added carrot of becoming the first HPL side to complete a season undefeated.

Thompson insisted it would be a 'devastating' blow should they have the chance to make history taken away from them because of the coronavirus.

‘No-one knows what is going to happen,' he said. ‘Whether the league are going to carry on and fulfil games, or whether it’s going to be knocked on the head.

‘If it is, what’s going to happen?

‘It’s all up in the air at the minute.

‘I’m not trying to disrespect the Hampshire Premier League, but why can’t you just fulfil the games?

‘If the pitches are still fit to play, life has still got to go on.

‘You can’t just grind to a standing halt.

‘I appreciate the higher up you go and you’re getting big crowds, it’s a bit different then.

‘It’s a bit frustrating at the moment, especially when you’re in our position with six games to play

.‘It would be devastating if the league knock it on the head.

‘We want to push on, play the six games and hopefully finish up as champions.

‘We don’t want the season to end, but it’s out of our hands.

‘But the welfare of the people is more important than any football match.'

Infinity's scheduled home league meeting with Colden Common on Saturday was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

The table-toppers are due to host Sway on Saturday and Thompson will prepare as normal for the fixture this coming week.

‘As far I’m concerned, we’ll train in the week and prepare for that until we get told otherwise.' he added.

‘We’re just going to carry on as normal until we get told otherwise.

‘I think by Tuesday or Wednesday, we’ll have a better picture of what the league is proposing to do.'
