Injuries mount up for Baffins as Christchurch teach them a lesson in latest Wessex loss

They followed up a 4-1 home loss to Lymington and a 2-0 setback at Stoneham with a 3-0 reverse at Christchurch.

Boss Steve Leigh felt his team were given a lesson in how far they still need to go.

‘We were beaten by the better team,' he said as the Dorset club maintained the Wessex League’s only remaining unbeaten home record.

'They were strong, effective, well organised and worked their socks off.

'Their workrate is at the level we should be att.

‘Though we have shown this at times this season, we have not managed to get back to those levels since our long enforced break from action.

'We learnt how far we have to go as a club and a team.

'There are things we must take on board and work hard to improve.'

'Christchurch were far better and the scoreline somewhat flatters us.

'They should have had at least a couple of goals more to show for their efforts.'

To add insult to injury, Rovers lost the services of defender Sam Emeny and Callum Dart to injury.

Emeny lasted less than 20 minutes before going off with a calf strain while Dart has potential ligament damage to his ankle.

Those injuries came just three days after midfielder George Way suffered a possible season-ending ankle injury in the Portsmouth Senior Cup win over Paulsgrove.

Max Wilcock gave Christchurch a 14th minute lead, when he met a long throw from Frost to score past keeper Cameron Scott.

It wasn't all one way, however, and when Tommy Scutt and Tyler Moret combined to find Dart he fired over.

The hosts increased their lead five minutes before half-time with a low free-kick drilled in via the post from Ashley Pope

Christchurch remained on the front foot in the second period and on 62 minutes Wilcock extended their lead.

The nearest Rovers came was in the dying minutes when Tyler Moret planted a header from a Tommy Tierney corner onto the top of the bar.
