Pompey’s promotion rivals saw the clash fall victim to a deluge which rendered the Bloomfield Road playing surface unplayable.

Referee Robert Lewis didn’t conduct a pitch inspection until 6pm after the Doncaster officials arrived at the ground. The decision to call of the fixture was then made.

That means a point at Oxford United will guarantee Pompey leapfrogging Darren Moore’s side in the League One table.

It also adds to Doncaster’s fixture congestion, with the side having two games in hands on the Blues after tonight, and only one free midweek space on the final week of the season.
