The day thousands of Portsmouth fans took over the centre of Guimaraes

This week’s Great Pompey Games Revisited feature in the Sports Mail looks back on the Blues’ 2008 Uefa Cup trip to Guimaraes, Portugal, for the club’s first ever away trip in European competition.

The Estádio Dom Afonso Henriques welcomed 3,000 travelling Pompey fans for the game, which ended 2-2 after extra-time and saw Harry Redknapp’s side progress 4-2 on aggregate. But it wasn’t just the stadium that saw an impressive star & crescent invasion. Indeed, the Praca de Santiago in the centre of Guimaraes was also a must-visit venue for those fans lucky to be there.
