The first-year professional was recalled from his loan spell at Poole Town earlier this week.

It came as a result of Pompey’s injury problems.

Gareth Evans remains out with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, Matty Kennedy missed the trip to Southend with an ankle setback and Kal Naismith wasn’t available for the win at Fleetwood because of a groin niggle.

Bedford has yet to make his first-team debut at Pompey and was the 19th man for the clash against the Cod Army.

Nevertheless, he’s played in a number of reserve games in the Premier League Cup and Central League Cup.

Meanwhile, the academy product amassed five goals from 32 appearances at National League South outfit Poole.

And Jackett is adamant Bedford is aware of what’s needed from him if he’s selected – because he trains with the first team regularly.

‘He’s been playing in a wide left position for Poole,’ the Pompey boss said.

‘They’ve had a tough time in terms of results. But he’s played well for our under-23s and he trains with us on a regular basis.

‘He won’t be surprised or not know what’s required of the club and not fit in with the other players, which is important.’

Bedford’s contract runs out in June, along with fellow first-year pro Theo Widdrington, although the club hold the option of extending both by a year.
